Research Assistant – Emergency Medicine Opioid Study

About the role

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Research Assistant to support a clinical study on opioid use screening and buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone) initiation in the emergency departments of Vancouver General Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. The role involves working under the Principal Investigator to carry out study protocols and contribute to data collection and participant follow‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and screen potential study participants in the emergency department.
• Obtain informed consent and enrol participants according to approved procedures.
• Administer questionnaires and record responses accurately.
• Collect, manage and enter research data into study databases.
• Perform routine follow‑up activities and coordinate study visits with clinical staff.
• Communicate study schedules and requirements with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and peer support workers.

Required profile

• Experience or training in clinical or health‑related research.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain high data quality.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfort working in a fast‑paced emergency department environment.
