Research Assistant – Clinical Sexual Health Study

About the role

The Brotto Lab at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Research Assistant to support a clinical study on sexual health. The role involves coordinating participant recruitment, managing data, and operating specialized Virtual Reality (VR) equipment in a sensitive research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate recruitment, screening, enrolment, and scheduling of study participants.
• Inform participants about the study protocol and obtain informed consent.
• Assist with research ethics amendments and prepare related documentation.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and operate VR testing equipment for in‑lab assessments.
• Train volunteers and lab members on VR system usage.
• Oversee volunteer activities and ensure compliance with study procedures.
• Organise and archive research documents, photos, and publications.
• Support the preparation and submission of abstracts, manuscripts, and other scholarly outputs.

Required profile

• Highly detail‑oriented and organized with strong prioritisation skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality, sensitivity, and respect when interacting with vulnerable participants.
• Self‑directed, able to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a team.
• Previous research experience, preferably in a clinical or laboratory setting.

Required skills

• Operation of Virtual Reality (VR) testing equipment.

• Hourly compensation ranging from $29.82 to $35.16 CAD.
