Remote Legal Professional (Contract)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced legal professional to join our remote team on a contract basis. You will work directly with Mercor’s AI research division to improve legal‑focused machine learning models by reviewing and annotating authentic U.S. court documents.

Key responsibilities

• Review and annotate U.S. court opinions and filings sourced from CourtListener.
• Apply legal judgment to assess case outcomes, reasoning quality, and document classification.
• Author legal‑reasoning problems grounded in real court opinions, orders, and judicial records.
• Support the development of AI systems that learn from legal reasoning and judicial language.
• Complete structured annotation tasks with consistency and high accuracy.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience practicing law in a law firm, in‑house department, government agency, or legal research organization.
• J.D., LL.M., or equivalent degree from a top U.S. university.
• Hands‑on experience with U.S. federal or state court systems.
• Strong reading comprehension of complex legal texts.
• Availability to commit at least 15 hours per week.

• Proficiency with CourtListener platform for accessing court documents.
• Legal research and analytical writing.
