Registration/Switchboard Clerk – Part-Time

About the role

A regular part‑time Registration/Switchboard Clerk position is available at Louise Marshall Hospital, part of North Wellington Health Care.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main communication centre answering incoming calls, redirecting to appropriate departments, handling overhead pages, emergency codes and managing power outages, phone or paging system issues.
• Use the hospital information system to follow registration standards for each visit type and ensure accurate patient registration with current valid information.
• Understand and follow downtime procedures for phone, hospital information, paging and other electronic systems.
• Manage contacts professionally, prioritising patient needs.
• Maintain confidentiality of all information in compliance with the Privacy Act, hospital policies and the Pledge of Confidentiality.
• Perform additional duties such as file sorting, chart creation and organizing patient information.

Required profile

• Graduate Medical Office Program (preferred) and a Medical Terminology Certificate (required; candidates may need to complete the certificate).
• Experience in switchboard, admitting or registration within a healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of privacy legislation, hospital confidentiality requirements and basic accounts receivable functions.
• Ability to type at least 40 words per minute and demonstrate reliable attendance and performance.
• Must pass reference checks, a police vulnerable sector check and a pre‑employment health assessment.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of the Meditech registration system.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
• Ability to work with hospital information systems and other software applications.
• Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
