Registered Practical Nurse – Pediatric Clinic

About the role

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides patient‑centred, evidence‑based care within the Just for Kids Clinic, the Paediatric Ambulatory Care Environment (P.A.C.E.) and the Emergency Department. Working in an inter‑professional team, the RPN promotes wellness, ensures safe and ethical nursing practice, and supports the development of nursing excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver holistic, culturally appropriate nursing care in line with College of Nurses of Ontario standards and Unity Health Toronto policies.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, assess needs, and develop individualized care plans.
• Provide autonomous care for stable patients and collaborate with Registered Nurses for patients with increasing instability.
• Coordinate and communicate patient‑care activities to optimise outcomes and patient experience.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes promptly to support effective inter‑professional communication.
• Educate patients and families using tailored teaching strategies.
• Participate in discharge and transition planning to ensure continuity of care.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Practical Nurse in Ontario.
• Strong knowledge of nursing standards, ethical practice, and patient safety.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for pediatric patients.
• Critical thinking and reflective practice to adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with RNs and other health professionals.
