Registered Nurse – Spinal Neurosurgery

About the role

The University Health Network (UHN) is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Spinal/Neurosurgery unit at Toronto Western Hospital’s Krembil Brain Institute. This 28‑bed specialized spine unit provides care for patients undergoing neurosurgical and orthopedic spine procedures, as well as those with infectious, oncological, traumatic, and neurological conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spinal cord injuries, tumors, abscesses and chronic pain.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, physicians, therapists and support staff.
• Monitor and assess patient status, administer medications, manage IV therapy and wound care.
• Participate in emergency and stat holiday coverage, working rotating day, evening and night shifts.
• Document care according to UHN Professional Practice Model and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
• Ability to work full‑time (37.5 hours/week) on a permanent basis.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Strong commitment to compassionate, collaborative patient care.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and patient monitoring.
• IV insertion and medication administration.
• Wound care and infection control practices.
• Use of electronic health record systems.
