Registered Nurse – Special Needs (AB2)

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide professional nursing care to patients with complex and unpredictable health needs in the AB2 Special Needs unit. Working under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the RN will deliver independent nursing services, administer prescribed treatments, and play a leadership role within the interdisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for residents with complex health conditions.
• Administer medications and medical treatments in accordance with policies and physician orders.
• Coordinate patient care, facilitate discharge planning, and ensure seamless communication among team members.
• Participate in professional development activities and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved nursing program conferring the designation “Graduate Nurse”.
• Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
• Experience in a similar clinical area is an asset.
• Willingness to complete specialty training related to the unit.
• Active participation in professional nursing associations is preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of CRNM Standards of Practice and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
• Familiarity with provincial legislation such as PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act and WHMIS.
• Understanding of delegation principles and the roles of the healthcare team.
• Effective oral and written communication abilities.
