Registered Nurse (RN) – Senior Care

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) will deliver direct resident care, manage medication administration, and ensure accurate documentation in line with regulatory standards and Extendicare policies. Reporting to the Director of Health and Wellness (DHW) or Director of Care (DOC), the RN plays a pivotal role in coordinating resident services and supporting the interdisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Complete and maintain resident care assessments, service plans, and documentation for billing purposes.
• Schedule and participate in resident care conferences and assist with resident move‑ins and transfers.
• Order, safeguard, and administer drugs and narcotics in compliance with regulations and company policies.
• Provide education to residents and families, and supervise self‑medication audits.
• Delegate and supervise medication administration to unregulated care providers.
• Develop, coordinate, and evaluate resident care plans with physicians, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Assign nursing team workloads to ensure timely service delivery.
• Respond to significant changes in resident condition, medical emergencies, and act as emergency supervisor when senior leaders are absent.
• Address resident/family concerns and communicate actions to leadership.
• Support infection prevention, health and safety, and quality initiatives within the nursing department.
• Coordinate nursing student placements and uphold the organization’s ethical standards.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the applicable province.
• Experience working with seniors and unregulated care providers.
• Education or experience in gerontology, rehabilitation, or long‑term care is an asset.
• Strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management, and customer focus.
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge and ability to delegate safely.
• Current Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) within the past six months.
