Registered Nurse – Geriatric Psychiatry (Full-time)

About the role

The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Geriatric Psychiatry inpatient unit. This full‑time, temporary position supports adults over 65 with mental health conditions, working closely with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery and quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to geriatric patients with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
• Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and community agencies to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Monitor and document patients' mental and physical health status, including medication effects and side‑effects.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to treatment planning.
• Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and community resources.

Required profile

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Up to three months of nursing experience; new graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Knowledge of mental health/addiction issues and related medical complications.
• Understanding of the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual French/English is an asset.

Required skills

• Current CPR certification (BCLS minimum) within the last 12 months.
