Registered Nurse – Cardiac Care (Class A) – Saint John

About the role

This full‑time position provides concentrated medical and surgical cardiac nursing care for patients at the NB Heart Center in Saint John. The RN works within a multidisciplinary team, applying the nursing process to deliver safe, high‑quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care domains (hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, elimination) with efficiency.
• Perform advanced patient assessments and adjust care plans as conditions change throughout the shift.
• Maintain and apply specialized cardiac knowledge, supporting surgical and interventional procedures.
• Act as team member, charge nurse, or leader as needed, collaborating directly with physicians, surgeons, patients, and families.
• Identify patient needs using assessment tools and document outcomes using the DARP charting model.

Required profile

• Current registration with the College of Nursing of New Brunswick (renewed annually by November 15).
• At least one year of ICU/CCU experience, or equivalent cardiac surgery, cardiology, or medical/surgical experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of the nursing process and confidentiality policies.
• Strong critical‑thinking abilities and professional judgment.
• Ability to work shift schedules and maintain regular attendance.

Required skills

• Cardiac anatomy and physiology knowledge.
• ECG and rhythm‑strip interpretation.
• Administration of titrated and IV‑push cardio‑active drugs.
• IV therapy and phlebotomy certification.
• Defibrillation certification and participation in Code Blue/Code White teams.
• BCLS and ACLS certification.
• DARP charting proficiency.
