Registered Nurse – Cardiac Care (Class A)

About the role

The NB Heart Center is seeking a Class A Registered Nurse (RNCA) to provide focused cardiac medical‑surgical care in a team environment. The role involves delivering high‑quality nursing services to patients undergoing cardiac interventions, surgeries, and intensive care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all basic nursing care domains (hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, elimination) with competence and efficiency.
• Conduct advanced patient assessments, prioritize needs, and direct care to appropriate team members throughout each shift.
• Maintain and apply specialized cardiac knowledge, including anatomy, physiology, rhythm strip and ECG interpretation.
• Administer titrated and IV‑push cardio‑active medications safely.
• Participate as a team member, charge nurse, or leader, interacting directly with physicians, surgeons, patients, and families.
• Document care using the DARP focus‑charting model and adhere to confidentiality and Horizon policies.

Required profile

• Current registration with the College of Nursing of New Brunswick, renewed annually by November 15.
• At least 1 year of ICU/CCU experience, or 1 year in cardiac surgery/cardiology/intervention, or 3 years medical/surgical nursing.
• Demonstrated understanding of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).
• Commitment to regular attendance, shift work, and adaptability in a changing environment.

Required skills

• ICU/CCU nursing experience
• Cardiac surgery, cardiology, or cardiac intervention experience
• ECG and rhythm‑strip interpretation
• Administration of titrated IV cardio‑active drugs
• IV therapy and phlebotomy certification
• Defibrillation certification
• BCLS and ACLS certification
