Radial Boom Derrick (RBD) Operator

About the role

An RBD (Radial Boom Digger/Derrick) Operator is responsible for operating specialized heavy machinery to excavate, lift, and position materials in construction and utility projects. As an RBD Operator, you will ensure safe and efficient equipment handling while adhering to project specifications and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the RBD equipment safely and efficiently.
• Fuel and grease equipment to maintain optimal operation.
• Operate additional machinery such as skid steer and mini hoe when required.
• Perform pre‑trip and hazard assessment checks on equipment and job site.
• Execute daily tasks to meet productivity requirements.
• Haul trailers (pole trailer, flat‑deck trailer) as needed.
• Read and interpret Ground Disturbance Permits and locate utilities.
• Understand daily work‑scope safety and environmental requirements.
• Work independently and assist crews with physical tasks.

Required profile

• High School diploma.
• 4‑5+ years experience operating RBD or similar heavy equipment.
• Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class 1 or 3) with a clean abstract.
• Ground Disturbance II Certification.
• Fall Protection Certification.
• CSTS with WHMIS and Standard First Aid certification.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
