Protection & Control Specialist

About the role

Power Precision Inc. is seeking a Protection & Control Specialist to design, configure, test and commission protection and control systems for substations and related electrical infrastructure. The role works closely with engineering, field and commissioning teams across the Maritimes, travelling to customer sites to perform maintenance and commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and commission power distribution equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches and instrument transformers.
• Perform short‑circuit, coordination and arc‑flash studies and collect site data as required.
• Create and modify single‑line and three‑line drawings using AutoCAD.
• Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC/DC control and protection wiring schematics.
• Provide emergency service support and travel to out‑of‑town project sites.

Required profile

• Electrical Engineering degree or Electrical Engineering Technology; 5+ years industry experience may substitute.
• 3‑5 years hands‑on testing with protection & control equipment, including relay testing with Omicron or Doble.
• Valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to travel within the Atlantic region.
• Strong focus on safety, quality and detail orientation.

Required skills

• Relay testing using Omicron or Doble equipment.
• Experience with SCADA, RTU and communication systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical drawings.
• Ability to conduct short‑circuit, coordination and arc‑flash studies.
