Property Accountant

About the role

The Property Accountant reports to the Vice President of Finance and is responsible for maintaining daily accounting records for revenue‑generating properties within an assigned portfolio. The role includes preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, handling acquisition and financing transactions, and supporting special projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain day‑to‑day accounting records for a portfolio of properties.
• Prepare and report quarterly and yearly property financials, including balance sheets and income statements.
• Compile year‑end financial reporting packages.
• Account for property sales, new acquisitions, construction draws and debt agreements.
• Handle government filings for GST/QST.
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
• Assist with ad‑hoc special projects as required.

Profile

• Previous experience in public accounting is an asset.
• Understanding of the real‑estate industry is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong team player who can build cooperative working relationships.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Strong understanding of accounting systems and software.
• Experience with Spectra, Simply Accounting and Building Stack is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
