Project Manager – Electrical Utilities Technical Services

About the role

Black & McDonald Limited is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead complex technical services projects within its Technical Services department in Ontario. You will oversee HV and MV substation EPC projects from planning through commissioning, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive project plans covering scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management.
• Allocate and manage internal teams, subcontractors, and external partners to meet milestones.
• Serve as primary liaison for clients and stakeholders, providing regular updates and addressing concerns.
• Identify and mitigate project risks, enforce quality standards, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Monitor budgets, control costs, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
• Lead commissioning, testing, and handover activities, delivering complete documentation and training to clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or related field.
• 3–8 years of experience as a Project Manager or Operations Manager in power utilities or related sectors.
• Professional designations such as P.Eng (PEO), OACETT, C. Tech, C.E.T, or PMP are advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of high‑voltage (HV) and medium‑voltage (MV) substations, transmission and distribution line systems.
• Familiarity with residential and commercial metering equipment and standards.
• Proficiency with project management methodologies, tools and software.
• Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal abilities.
