Professor – Pre‑Service Firefighter Education

About the role

St. Lawrence College is looking for an experienced fire‑service professional to join its faculty as a Professor of Pre‑Service Firefighter Education. The role is primarily based at the Brockville campus, with occasional teaching duties at Kingston or Cornwall campuses. Classes run Monday‑Friday between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.

Key responsibilities

• Create an inclusive learning environment that respects diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Integrate advanced technologies and digital learning tools to enhance student engagement.
• Design, deliver, and continuously update curriculum covering fire behavior, combustion chemistry, safety, rescue operations, and environmental protection.
• Apply adult‑education principles to actively involve learners.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, internal and external partners, and contribute to scholarship of teaching and learning.

Required profile

• Minimum post‑secondary diploma in Fire Services, Fire Protection Engineering, Pre‑Service Firefighting, or a related discipline.
• Completion of the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Trainer/Facilitator program.
• NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor II certification.
• At least 15 years of fire‑service experience, with documented annual recertification.
• Experience teaching at the post‑secondary level or delivering adult‑education instruction.
