Principal Software Architect, AI

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Principal Software Architect, AI to join its Foundry R&D team in Toronto. You will work in an agile, AI‑native pod to design and deliver large‑scale, data‑driven software platforms from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design highly scalable solution architectures for early‑stage, data‑intensive product concepts.
• Influence the adoption and innovation of AI across the software development lifecycle.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture, design, implementation, deployment and release of complex applications and integrations.
• Shape the technical strategy and lead the architecture of Data Platforms within Foundry R&D.
• Lead the productionalisation of AI systems, including observability, evaluation and cost optimisation.
• Establish best practices for responsible AI, ensuring compliance, explainability and data privacy.
• Coach development teams on technical best practices and AI‑centric engineering.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing large‑scale, customer‑facing applications with heavy data dependencies.
• Proven track record of leveraging Generative and Agentic AI in software architecture.
• Hands‑on engineer comfortable with the full product development lifecycle.
• Strong ability to work in fast‑moving, experimental AI environments.
