Postdoctoral Researcher – Spatial Computing & AI for Surgical Education

About the role

The Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning (SCSIL) at McGill University seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop next‑generation educational technologies for self‑paced surgical training. The one‑year position focuses on immersive tools that operate without connectivity, initially targeting ATLS‑related skill assessment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement spatial‑computing educational applications for Apple Vision Pro using Swift.
• Develop computer‑vision and AI pipelines to automate procedural performance assessment.
• Build and deploy edge AI models for on‑device or near‑real‑time inference.
• Integrate multimodal sensing and educational intelligence into immersive training workflows.
• Collaborate with clinicians, surgeons, and robotics experts to translate educational needs into deployable solutions.
• Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant writing, technical documentation, and research dissemination.

Required profile

• PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong research background in spatial computing, computer vision, or AI applied to medical education.
• Experience working in interdisciplinary teams that include clinical and technical partners.
