Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Machine Learning

About the role

The Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia invites a full‑time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Walk Tall research team at BC Children’s Hospital. The fellow will apply artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science to improve clinical decision‑making in musculoskeletal care.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, validate and deploy machine‑learning and deep‑learning models for diagnosis, treatment planning and outcome prediction.
• Work with multimodal clinical data sets, including medical imaging (X‑ray, CT, MRI), electronic health records, text and voice recordings.
• Apply supervised, unsupervised and self‑supervised learning techniques, as well as large language models, to orthopaedic research problems.
• Develop explainable AI solutions and integrate them into the clinical workflow.
• Collaborate with orthopaedic surgeons, allied health professionals and international researchers to annotate data and refine model pipelines.

Required profile

• PhD in computer science, biomedical engineering, data science or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science.
• Ability to work independently under broad directives and manage research priorities.
• Strong interest in clinical research and translational applications.
