Plumbing & Heating Service Technician

About the role

Black & McDonald is seeking an experienced Service Technician to join its Service Division in Vancouver, BC. The role involves hands‑on work on commercial plumbing and heating equipment, providing maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs while delivering excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned maintenance on commercial plumbing and heating equipment such as boilers, pumps, furnaces, hot‑water tanks, make‑up air units, water filtration systems and backflow devices.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair plumbing and heating systems, and execute small re‑pipe, retrofit and tenant‑improvement projects.
• Complete daily service reports using the B&M mobile reporting application and compile accurate labor and material take‑offs for ordering.
• Communicate clearly with customers, suppliers and team members via phone, text, email and mobile apps, and participate in rotating 24/7 on‑call emergency support.

Required profile

• Strong work ethic, willingness to learn and a passion for the trade.
• Effective communication, customer focus and problem‑solving abilities.
• Red Seal Plumbing Trade Qualification; B‑Gas and Cross‑Connection Control certifications (A‑Gas certification is an asset).
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience; candidates without all certifications may be considered if they demonstrate strong work ethic and desire to learn.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pipe‑joining methods, hand tools, power tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical literature and service manuals.
• Class 5 BC driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and mobile service reporting applications.
