Physical Security Advisor

About the role

The Physical Security Advisor supports a safe campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Reporting to the Manager of Physical Security, the role provides expert advice on loss prevention, risk management, and security best practices across McGill’s facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the university community on loss prevention and crime risk management, especially for construction and renovation projects on both Downtown and Macdonald campuses.
• Manage the day‑to‑day operation of the security device request service and oversee security improvement projects.
• Develop and maintain relationships with building directors, area access managers, project managers, and student groups.
• Conduct physical security surveys, audits, and device‑request consultations, then implement approved recommendations.
• Collaborate with Facilities Operations, Development, Infrastructure, and Information Security to ensure proper installation of security solutions.
• Oversee external security professionals and service providers during installation and keep clients informed throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure university spaces and processes comply with security policies, legislation, and best‑practice standards.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience advising on loss prevention and crime risk management.
• Proven ability to manage security‑related projects and device‑request services.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with building directors, access managers, project teams, and student groups.
• Experience conducting security surveys, audits, and implementing corrective actions.
• Ability to work collaboratively with facilities, infrastructure, and information‑security teams.
• Experience supervising external security professionals and service providers.
