Permanent Teacher – Grade 5/6

About the role

As a Permanent Teacher for the Durham District School Board, you will lead a Grade 5/6 classroom in an elementary school, creating a vibrant and supportive learning environment where students thrive. You will deliver the Ontario curriculum, foster a love of learning, and contribute to an inclusive school community.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and deliver engaging lessons that align with the Ontario curriculum for Grade 5/6.
• Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records.
• Establish a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere where every student feels valued.
• Collaborate with colleagues, parents and community partners to enhance student outcomes.
• Adapt instructional strategies and materials to meet diverse learning needs.

Required profile

• Ontario teaching certificate (OCT) in good standing.
• Subject qualification at the Junior level.
• Assignment to Grade 5/6, Full‑time Equivalent 1.0.
• Ability to obtain a current Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion and Indigenous reconciliation.
