Peer Career Educator

About the role

The Career Planning Service (CaPS) at McGill University seeks current graduate students to join the team as Peer Career Educators. In this role you will support fellow students in exploring career options, preparing application materials, and accessing CaPS resources.

Key responsibilities

• Provide information on career‑related topics through one‑on‑one consultations, presentations, and informal Q&A sessions.
• Review and give verbal feedback on documents such as graduate‑school applications, résumés, and cover letters.
• Represent CaPS at campus events, explaining services and directing students to resources.
• Develop and update career guides, handouts, checklists, and workshop materials.
• Assist with the planning and execution of career‑related programming, including workshops, career fairs, and registration tables.

Required profile

• Current McGill student pursuing a Master’s, PhD, or Post‑doc in any discipline.
• Eligible for a work‑study position for the 2026‑2027 academic year (work‑study approval letter required).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Experience in a student‑facing role that required professionalism and independence.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work sensitively with diverse students.

Required skills

• Awareness of graduate‑school application processes (medical, law, or other professional tracks are a plus).
• Familiarity with McGill Student Services and campus engagement opportunities.
