Part-Time Cook for Long-Term Care Facility

About the role

The Cook will prepare and deliver nutritious meals for residents, guests and staff in a long‑term care setting. This part‑time position reports to the Director of Culinary Services or Dietary Manager and supports a safe, supportive environment for vulnerable adults.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals according to menus, production sheets and therapeutic diet requirements.
• Maintain proper food‑handling techniques and complete daily temperature audits for refrigerators, freezers and storerooms.
• Make menu substitutions as needed and record them accurately.
• Follow standardized recipes, production charts and budget guidelines.
• Comply with provincial/municipal regulations, dietary policies and health‑safety legislation.
• Participate in special‑occasion and theme‑meal planning.
• Attend staff meetings, in‑services and training sessions.
• Uphold resident rights, organizational values and the Extendicare Code of Conduct.

Required profile

• Valid Food Handler’s Certificate (required).
• Red Seal Certificate (preferred).
• Experience in large‑quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting.
• Knowledge of provincial food premises regulations and Canada’s Food Guide.
• Familiarity with special and therapeutic diets.
• Physical ability to lift heavy, hot items and stand for most of the shift.
