Outpost/Dispensary Nurse (Expanded Role)

About the role

This position is for a registered nurse working in a remote outpost or dispensary in Quebec where a physician is not permanently present. The nurse will perform assessments that enable a distant doctor to diagnose and determine appropriate interventions, effectively taking on duties normally reserved for physicians.

Key responsibilities

• Identify health needs of individuals and contribute to diagnostic processes.
• Provide and monitor nursing care for health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Deliver care in accordance with the collective prescription guide of the UTHC.
• Participate in various CLSC programs: child monitoring, perinatal care, vaccination, STI management, school health, home care, routine and emergency care.
• Be on-call for emergency rotations as required.
• Perform additional tasks related to the role, including activities typically performed by physicians.

Required profile

• Member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).
• Completed training in the Enlarged Role or equivalent experience in community health and isolated outpost settings.
• Experience in emergency department and obstetrics is a major asset.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and French (written and spoken) is essential; knowledge of Inuktitut is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
