On‑Call Childcare Support Worker (Casual)

About the role

The Childcare Support Worker provides daily supervision and care for children at the qʷayac̓iikʔiis Childcare Centre. Working under the direction of Early Childhood Educators and the Childcare Manager, the role helps maintain a safe, respectful and engaging environment in a licensed program. This position meets the Responsible Adult requirements of the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise children actively to ensure safety and wellbeing during all activities.
• Support daily routines such as meals, rest, outdoor play, transitions, diapering and toileting.
• Assist staff in maintaining required staff‑to‑child ratios and safe transitions between program areas.
• Help set up and maintain safe, inclusive learning environments and facilitate play‑based activities.
• Model positive guidance, encouraging social skills and emotional regulation.
• Follow health, safety and hygiene policies, report incidents and participate in emergency procedures.

Required profile

• At least 19 years of age.
• Completion of a Responsible Adult course recognized by BC Child Care Licensing (or equivalent).
• Current First Aid and CPR certification (Emergency Child Care preferred).
• Clear criminal record check for the vulnerable sector.
• Preferred experience working with children in childcare, school, recreation or community programs, especially with Indigenous families.
