Oiler – Marine Engineering Position

About the role

Bay Ferries Limited is seeking qualified Oilers to join the Engineering Department on the MV Fundy Rose, operating between Saint John, NB and Digby, NS. The Oiler supports safe and efficient vessel operations by monitoring and maintaining engine room machinery and related systems.

Key responsibilities

• Stand engine room watches, monitor and service machinery and equipment.
• Assist engineers with operation of engine room systems, including lubrication and cooling oil supplies.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on machinery, water and sewage systems.
• Clean, chip, and paint machinery spaces and ship tanks.
• Maintain machinery logs, operational records, and report equipment irregularities.
• Participate in emergency drills, training, and adhere to the Safety Management System.

Required profile

• Valid Candidate Document Number (CDN) and Seafarer's Medical Certificate.
• Engine Room Rating (ERR) Certificate.
• STCW Basic Safety – Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
• Advanced Fire Fighting certification.
• Passenger Safety Management Certificate of Endorsement.
• Continuous Certificate of Discharge (Discharge Book).
• Commitment to a just‑cause safety culture and ability to work in hot, cold, and noisy environments.
