Nurse Case Manager – 24‑Month Contract

About the role

The Nurse Case Manager (NCM) joins CN’s Occupational Health team to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements when assessing medical fitness for duty and managing disability cases. This 24‑month contract role supports employees in safety‑sensitive railway positions and other roles throughout their careers, from pre‑employment to retirement.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and monitor fitness to work for applicants and employees using CN‑approved indicators and the Canadian Railway Medical Rules Handbook.
• Conduct medical evaluations for pre‑placement, periodic, job transfer, return‑to‑work, health monitoring, audiometric and lantern testing, and disability retirement.
• Serve as an expert on CN’s Drugs & Alcohol policy, supporting managers and arranging substance‑use testing.
• Coordinate pre‑placement, follow‑up, and random post‑incident testing, including assessments after dismissal, arbitration, or leave of absence.
• Medically monitor employees with substance‑use disorders under relevant agreements.
• Manage disability cases, maintain up‑to‑date records in the SAP system, and ensure confidentiality of medical information.
• Develop and implement return‑to‑work or accommodation plans in line with Railway Medical Guidelines.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with case‑management experience, preferably in occupational health or disability management.
• Knowledge of Canadian Railway Medical Rules and related regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work within a multi‑professional team while upholding professional scope of practice and ethical standards.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate record‑keeping and confidentiality compliance.

Required skills

• SAP (experience with employee health record management).
