NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair – Electrochemical Technologies & Functional Materials

About the role

The Université du Québec à Trois‑Rivières invites applications for a NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair focused on electrochemical technologies and functional eco‑materials that support the environmental energy transition.

Key responsibilities

• Lead an independent, innovative research program on electrochemical systems, batteries, fuel cells and low‑carbon hydrogen technologies.
• Optimize the use of critical and strategic minerals and integrate bio‑based materials to reduce dependence on scarce resources.
• Study material aging in operando conditions and assess environmental impacts through life‑cycle analysis and carbon‑footprint assessment.
• Develop high‑performance technologies for extreme climatic conditions.
• Integrate advanced computational methods and AI for accelerated micro‑nano materials discovery.
• Collaborate with the Joint Research Unit, Hydrogen Research Institute, Innovation Institute in Ecomaterials, and the National Integrated Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing.
• Supervise undergraduate, graduate and post‑doctoral researchers and contribute to teaching activities.

Required profile

• Recognized expert in electrochemical engineering or related fields with a strong publication record.
• Experience in batteries, fuel cells, or other electrochemical energy technologies.
• Proven ability to secure research funding and lead interdisciplinary projects.
• Experience with life‑cycle assessment, carbon‑footprint analysis, and materials optimization.
