Mechanical Estimator

About the role

Black & McDonald is seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join its Construction team in London. The role leads cost‑estimate analysis and prepares mechanical work take‑offs, providing technical support with a focus on plumbing estimating and project changes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical work take‑offs and estimates for materials, labour and equipment based on bids, drawings and specifications.
• Advise on tendering procedures, examine tenders, recommend awards and conduct negotiations.
• Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects.
• Participate in site reviews, tender hand‑offs and project close‑out activities.
• Maintain supplier and subcontractor directories and conduct economic feasibility studies on cost changes.
• Utilise estimating software and CRM platforms such as AutoBid and Salesforce; travel to sites as required.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management or a mechanical trade school.
• 5+ years estimating experience on mechanical or plumbing ICI construction projects.
• Certifications such as Gold Seal Certified, Professional Quantity Surveyor or PMP are assets.
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code; plumbing code knowledge is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoBid estimating software.
• Experience using Salesforce CRM.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project (Microsoft 365).
• Familiarity with Procore construction software.
• Understanding of CCDC construction contract law and local union collective agreements.
• Valid Ontario G‑class driver’s licence for site visits.
