Mechanical Engineer – Marine Vessel Design

About the role

Vard Marine is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and engineering of specialized vessels, including polar research ships and offshore patrol vessels. You will work within a global team to develop reliable, high‑performance marine systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations using empirical formulae from Classification Regulations and first‑principles methods.
• Conduct HVAC calculations in line with industry and marine standards.
• Prepare and modify simple mechanical/diagrammatic drawing packages for submission to Classification Societies.
• Provide technical input to specifications and drawings and carry out engineering studies, technical evaluations, and analyses.
• Apply basic knowledge of Classification Society Rules and Flag State Regulations.
• Act as Second in Command to a Project Manager on smaller projects when required.
• Collaborate across intra‑office and inter‑office teams and participate in functional groups such as user groups and quality.
• Communicate clearly, meet budget and deadline requirements, and produce basic technical reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 0–5 years of post‑graduation experience in a relevant industry.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications and AutoCAD.
• Basic understanding of marine engineering systems and classification rules.

Required skills
