Mechanical Engineer – Building Systems

About the role

Our client, a Canadian consulting engineering firm, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team delivering building‑system designs for commercial, industrial, retail, residential and mixed‑use projects. The role offers exposure to a variety of project sizes and stages, with a hybrid work model based in Toronto.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire‑protection and other mechanical building systems.
• Perform engineering calculations, equipment selections and technical evaluations.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, schedules, reports and other project documentation.
• Use AutoCAD and Revit for mechanical design and interdisciplinary coordination.
• Assist with energy‑efficient and sustainable building‑system solutions.
• Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs during construction.
• Participate in site visits, field reviews, deficiency inspections and construction meetings.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, building‑condition assessments and renovation projects.
• Manage assigned tasks and smaller project components with increasing independence.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Approximately three to five years of mechanical consulting or building‑systems experience.
• Registered as an Engineer‑in‑Training in Ontario, eligible for P.Eng. registration, or progressing toward it.
• Practical experience with HVAC and other mechanical building systems.
• Familiarity with applicable building codes, standards and engineering practices.
