Marine Safety & Survival Instructor (On‑Call)

About the role

The Offshore Safety & Survival Centre (OSSC) at the Marine Institute is seeking experienced instructors to deliver marine, offshore and industrial emergency response training on an on‑call contractual basis. You will teach both theory and hands‑on skills at the Foxtrap Campus, Marine Base in Holyrood and other locations across Newfoundland & Labrador and the North.

Key responsibilities

• Provide classroom instruction and practical demonstrations in firefighting, marine survival and rescue craft operations.
• Supervise live‑fire evolutions, open‑water exercises and survival tank drills, ensuring participant safety and risk‑management compliance.
• Develop and update course material in line with OSSC standards and governing regulations.
• Perform administrative duties related to course planning, record‑keeping and reporting.

Required profile

• Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience in a marine or offshore environment.
• Three‑year diploma or equivalent in a related field.
• Valid Transport Canada Marine medical certification.
• Current Transport Canada Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certificate and/or Basic Survival Training (BST) certificate.
• Ability to work safely in and around aquatic environments.
