Maintenance & Reliability Manager – Cambridge

About the role

The Maintenance & Reliability Manager will lead the maintenance function at our Cambridge site, ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance while driving reliability and uptime of critical equipment. This senior position reports to senior leadership and works closely with Operations, Quality, Engineering and the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a site‑wide maintenance and reliability strategy aligned with business objectives, including preventive, predictive and corrective programs.
• Lead safety and quality initiatives, ensuring all maintenance work meets cGMP, lockout/tagout and permit‑to‑work requirements.
• Own maintenance KPIs such as equipment downtime, PM compliance, schedule adherence and backlog management.
• Provide governance for calibration (BlueMountain) and facility systems (Siemens BMS), and manage equipment master data in MainBoss.
• Drive continuous improvement, root‑cause problem solving and transition from reactive to reliability‑based maintenance.
• Lead and develop a unionized maintenance workforce, including millwrights, tradespeople and contractors, and establish apprenticeship and succession programs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years progressive experience in production/packaging maintenance with people or project leadership, preferably in pharmaceutical or regulated food manufacturing.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical/Process Engineering or an equivalent skilled‑trade qualification.
• Proven success moving a reactive maintenance environment toward proactive, reliability‑focused practices.
• Experience supporting regulatory inspections, cGMP compliance and working in a unionized environment.
• Familiarity with procurement, commissioning and qualification of manufacturing and packaging equipment.
