Litigation Lawyer – Independent Contractor – Remote/Hybrid

About the role

MT>Align, a division of McCarthy Tétrault LLP, is seeking litigation lawyers to join its independent‑contractor roster. The position offers the flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid setting across Canada while providing sophisticated legal support to a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Manage corporate, commercial and civil litigation matters from inception to resolution.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
• Handle cases in Small Claims Court as well as Superior Court, including trial and tribunal appearances.
• Participate in mediation sessions and other alternative dispute resolution processes.
• Maintain client relationships and independently manage file portfolios.

Required profile

• Licensed lawyer with experience in corporate, commercial or civil litigation.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and produce high‑quality drafting.
• Comfortable handling both Small Claims and Superior Court matters.
• Strong advocacy, organizational and client‑management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
• Bilingualism in English and French is an asset but not mandatory.
