Litigation Lawyer Associate – Social Justice Focus

About the role

Our client is looking for a Litigation Lawyer Associate who is passionate about social justice and wants a varied practice that blends courtroom advocacy with advisory work. The position offers a mix of litigation, governance, and commercial contract matters, allowing you to make a tangible impact for charities, not‑for‑profits and other mission‑driven organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse litigation caseload, including Landlord and Tenant Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario applications and Small Claims Court matters.
• Appear before tribunals and courts, taking ownership of files and assuming early responsibility.
• Provide governance advice to charities, not‑for‑profits and co‑operatives.
• Handle employment law issues for clients.
• Draft, review and advise on commercial and construction contracts.

Required profile

• 3–5 years’ call to the Ontario Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to social‑justice causes.
• Comfort moving between contentious and advisory work across multiple subject areas.
• Strong judgment to run matters with limited supervision.

Required skills

• Experience appearing before administrative tribunals and/or courts (strongly preferred).
• Excellent drafting, file‑management and client‑facing abilities.
• Ability to handle both litigation and advisory tasks efficiently.

What we offer

• Competitive salary $110,000–$130,000 CAD per year, plus a discretionary bonus up to 5%.
• Hybrid work model – three days in the office, two days remote.
• Billing target of 1,100 hours per year.
