Litigation Associate (3-5 years' call) – Toronto

About the role

This position is for a litigation associate in a Toronto‑based law firm with a strong social‑justice focus. The role blends courtroom advocacy with advisory work for charities, not‑for‑profits and employers, offering early responsibility and a varied practice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a mixed litigation docket, including Landlord and Tenant Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Small Claims Court matters.
• Appear before Ontario tribunals and courts, taking real carriage of files.
• Provide governance advice to charities, not‑for‑profits and co‑operatives.
• Handle employment law issues and draft/review commercial and construction contracts.

Required profile

• 3–5 years’ call to the Ontario Bar, in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Demonstrated experience appearing before administrative tribunals or courts (strongly preferred).
• Ability to move fluidly between contentious and advisory work across multiple subject areas.
• Strong drafting, file‑management and client‑facing abilities with minimal supervision.
• Commitment to social‑justice matters is a significant asset.

Required skills

What we offer

• Salary range $110,000 – $130,000 CAD, based on years of call.
• Discretionary bonus of up to 5% tied to firm revenues.
• Hybrid work model – three days in the Toronto office, two days remote.
• Billing target of 1,100 hours per year.
