Line Handler – Marine Mooring Operations

About the role

The Line Handler works on the dock in Kitimat, BC, handling mooring lines to safely secure vessels during berthing and unberthing. The role is essential for vessel safety and requires close coordination with ship bridge crews and line handling supervisors.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare messenger lines and reels, checking condition, length, and proper attachment to bollards or cleats.
• Handle mooring lines to secure ships to the dock, following company procedures and safety protocols.
• Communicate with bridge crews and supervisors to coordinate mooring operations and signal maneuvers.
• Monitor and adjust line tension to accommodate tide, wind, or ship movement.
• Inspect mooring equipment (lines, bollards, cleats, hydraulic capstans) for damage and report issues.
• Assist in emergencies by releasing or adjusting lines as directed.
• Follow safety regulations, wear PPE, and participate in drills and training.
• Support other dock operations as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience in ship mooring or maritime roles (training may be provided).
• Physical ability to lift and handle heavy lines and work outdoors in varying weather.
• Strong verbal and non‑verbal communication to coordinate with bridge crews and port personnel.
• Knowledge of maritime safety protocols and a focus on accident prevention.
• Attention to detail to ensure lines are properly secured and maintained.
