Licensed Practical Nurse – Part-Time (0.48 FTE) for SAFER Program

About the role

The SAFER program seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction care to participants accessing safer pharmaceutical alternatives. Working under the Clinical Nurse Lead and Nurse Manager, you will assess, screen, and educate individuals with complex primary‑care needs and poly‑substance use.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver assessment, screening, education, referrals, and advocacy for substance use, mental health, sexual health, wound care, and general wellness.
• Collaborate with participants and the SAFER team to develop and maintain individualized care plans.
• Administer medications and conduct screenings according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
• Provide harm‑reduction support through collaborative risk‑reduction strategies.
• Engage with community partners to ensure seamless support for mutual participants.

Required profile

• Licensed Practical Nurse registered with the BCCNM regulator.
• 1–5 years of full‑scope nursing experience with high levels of poly‑substance use and mental health challenges.
• Experience in supervised consumption, overdose prevention, safer supply, or other harm‑reduction programs.
• Commitment to social‑justice principles, anti‑racism, decolonization, and equity‑oriented care.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in stressful situations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
• Strong observation skills to recognize subtle changes in participants.
• Effective verbal and written communication for documentation and reporting.

• Hourly wage on the BCNU pay grid for LPN Level 1 ($32.84–$41.35 per hour) with applicable premiums.
