Library Supervisor – Collections Centre

About the role

The Library Supervisor ensures efficient operations of the McGill University Collections Centre (MUCC), a specialized off‑campus library facility equipped with an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). Reporting to the Associate Director, the supervisor leads a team of Senior Library Clerks, oversees daily workflows, and contributes to continuous improvement of services.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise staff and daily operations, schedule workloads, and monitor progress.
• Address absences, resolve staff issues, and re‑assign priorities to maintain service quality.
• Respond to policy, practice, and procedural inquiries; assess and resolve collection, facility, and security problems.
• Participate in policy and workflow modernization for the Collections Centre.
• Assist in recruitment, interview preparation, and performance evaluations.
• Train staff on specialized software, equipment, and ASRS operations.
• Prepare documentation on new procedures, policies, and services.

Required profile

• Experience supervising library or information‑service staff.
• Strong organizational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Effective communication with senior management and team members.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) technology.
