Legal Counsel

About the role

Cogeco is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide strategic and practical legal advice that supports daily operations and growth initiatives across North America. The role blends commercial insight with legal expertise to help the company navigate complex regulatory environments.

Key responsibilities

• Review, draft, and lead negotiations for commercial agreements such as procurement contracts, leases, network management agreements, and strategic partnerships.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and commercial risks linked to new business and marketing initiatives in Canada and the United States.
• Provide regulatory guidance on telecommunications, broadcasting, consumer protection, and competition law.
• Supervise external counsel for complex litigation, cross‑border transactions, and specialized matters.
• Manage customer complaint files and represent the company in Small Claims proceedings.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting the telecom and media sectors and update internal policies accordingly.

Required profile

• LL.B. or B.C.L. and active membership in the Barreau du Québec.
• 3–5 years of commercial law experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
• Prior exposure to telecommunications, consumer protection, technology, or media sectors is a strong asset.
• Fluent in both French and English, written and spoken.
