Legal Counsel – Documentation Negotiator

About the role

Join Societe Generale’s Montreal office as a Legal Counsel focused on documentation negotiation. You will work closely with North‑American teams and a manager outside Canada to draft, negotiate and execute complex trading agreements across derivatives, securities financing and other financial products.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate, draft and manage master trading agreements and related documentation for derivatives, securities lending and financing transactions.
• Review corporate and organizational documents, conduct legal due diligence and analyse counter‑party comments.
• Collaborate with legal, credit, front‑office and collateral teams to resolve legal, risk and operational issues during negotiations.
• Liaise with external counsel on complex matters and support regulatory and operational initiatives.
• Provide guidance on cross‑border transactions, ensuring compliance with Canadian and U.S. legal frameworks.

Required profile

• 3‑7 years of experience in financial markets, derivatives, securities financing or trading documentation.
• Background in a law firm, financial institution or corporate legal department.
• Member of the Bar of a Canadian province.
• Strong legal and commercial judgment with excellent communication skills.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is a strong asset.
