Legal Counsel – Corporate & Commercial Law (13‑month contract)

About the role

Export Development Canada (EDC) is seeking a corporate and commercial lawyer to join its Legal Services team. The Legal Counsel will provide expert advice on a wide range of transactions, including loans, investments, insurance, procurement and marketing activities, while working in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support on corporate, commercial and financial product matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, loan agreements, investment documents and insurance policies.
• Assist EDC’s procurement and marketing functions to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Represent the corporation in internal and external legal proceedings as required.
• Stay current on legislative changes affecting export‑related financial services and advise stakeholders accordingly.

Required profile

• Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society.
• Significant experience practising corporate and commercial law, preferably within the financial services or export‑development sector.
• Strong analytical abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work setting.
