Landscape Technician – Trades 2 (UBC Campus)

About the role

The Landscape Technologist maintains all hard and soft outdoor surfaces across the UBC Point Grey Campus. The role combines horticultural duties with skilled landscape practices such as design, construction, pruning, nursery work, pesticide application, and asphalt and concrete repair.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine horticultural maintenance and specialized tasks including irrigation, playing‑field upkeep, landscape installation, and tree care.
• Design, construct, and maintain soft‑ and hard‑scape elements, including pruning, propagation, pesticide and chemical applications, turf installations, and asphalt/concrete repairs.
• Assign and supervise labourers and apprentices, maintain work records, and ensure safe operation of power equipment.
• Evaluate planting beds, trees, lawns, and soil conditions; report findings and recommend care actions.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as walk‑behind mowers, line trimmers, riding mowers, tractors, bobcats, high‑lift devices, and tree‑climbing gear.
• Design, install, and maintain landscape drainage and irrigation systems, and keep as‑built documentation.
• Maintain records of fertilizer and pesticide use for regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• BC journeyperson‑level trade certification as a Landscape Technologist (or Red Seal).
• BC Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate and a valid BC driver’s licence.
• Minimum five years of related landscape maintenance experience.

Required skills
