Landscape Technician – Trades 2

About the role

The Landscape Technician (Trades 2) supports the Athletics & Recreation department at the University of British Columbia by maintaining all hard‑ and soft‑surface outdoor areas, including sports fields, gardens, and campus pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine horticultural maintenance, irrigation checks, and playing‑field upkeep.
• Design, construct, and maintain soft‑ and hard‑landscape elements on both small and large projects.
• Prune trees and shrubs, propagate plant material, and apply pesticides and chemicals safely.
• Install and repair turf, asphalt, and concrete paver surfaces.
• Maintain accession records, inventories, and plant identification systems.
• Repair synthetic turf surfaces and oversee related equipment.
• Assign tasks to labourers and apprentices, supervise work quality, and provide on‑the‑job training.

Required profile

• Experience in landscape maintenance, horticulture, and groundskeeping.
• Ability to supervise and train apprentices and labourers.
• Knowledge of safety procedures for chemical and pesticide use.
