About the role
The West Moberly First Nations community seeks a dedicated Lands Manager to lead its Lands Department. This full‑time, on‑site role involves shaping sustainable land‑use practices, protecting treaty rights, and building strong partnerships with government, industry, and other Treaty 8 First Nations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and direction to Lands Department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
- Collaborate with Chief, Council, and community members to set land‑use priorities and strategies.
- Develop and oversee programs that protect treaty rights, land use, and environmental quality.
- Manage agreements and partnerships with governments and industries, ensuring compliance and advocacy for community interests.
- Lead natural‑resource conservation initiatives and uphold air, water, and habitat standards.
- Review land‑use and conservation proposals, ensuring legal and treaty compliance.
- Conduct legal research, draft responses to project queries, and support informed decision‑making.
- Represent the community on resource‑management and land‑use committees and manage contracts and funding proposals.
Required profile
- Passion for natural‑resource management, Indigenous governance, and partnership building.
- Experience working with First Nations, government agencies, or industry on land‑use issues.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to the community’s values of respect, honesty, fairness, integrity, and self‑motivation.
Required skills
- Legal research and analysis related to treaty and environmental law.
- Evaluation of land‑use and conservation project proposals.
- Stakeholder engagement and negotiation.
- Knowledge of treaty rights, natural‑resource regulations, and environmental best practices.
