Junior Software Engineer – Global Payments

About the role

Scotiabank is looking for a motivated Junior Software Engineer to join its Global Payments Engineering team. You will work in a fast‑paced environment, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative payment solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software components that support modern payment platforms.
• Participate in code merging, versioning, and promotion across environments using version‑control tools.
• Tri­age production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement fixes.
• Collaborate on effort estimation, break down work, and enable frequent releases.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and help reduce technical debt.
• Engage in customer and solution discovery sessions.
• Share knowledge through engineering communities, forums, and university partnerships.

Required profile

• Strong desire to innovate and solve problems.
• Learning mindset with the ability to pick up new tools and techniques quickly.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and challenge design decisions.
• Junior‑level experience or academic background in software development.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Basic understanding of relational databases (e.g., MySQL).
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases.
• Experience with version‑control systems (e.g., Git).
