Junior Motion Designer (Freelance Contractor)

About the role

Scarab Digital is seeking a Junior Motion Designer to work on story‑driven on‑screen graphics for film and television. The position is a freelance, project‑based contract that can be performed remotely from anywhere in Canada, with occasional hybrid studio time in Vancouver.

Key responsibilities

• Support the creation of UI and FUI systems used in film and TV productions.
• Design and animate on‑screen graphics such as phones, laptops, TVs, messaging apps, search results, data visualisations, and other interface moments.
• Translate briefs, references and feedback into production‑ready design assets.
• Iterate quickly as story requirements, timing and creative direction evolve.
• Maintain the intent of the brief while exploring stronger design ideas when appropriate.
• Package files cleanly and communicate clearly to ensure smooth hand‑off to the wider team.

Required skills

• 1–3 years of professional or contract experience in motion design.
• Strong fundamentals in layout, typography, composition, pacing and motion.
• Proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop.
• A portfolio or reel that demonstrates design thinking and production‑ready work.
• Clear written communication and reliable turnaround times.
