Journeyperson Sheet Metal Worker

About the role

Black & McDonald’s Saskatchewan team is seeking an experienced Journeyperson Sheet Metal Worker to join its Service/Small Projects Division. The role involves fabricating, installing and inspecting sheet‑metal systems for a variety of construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering, architectural and HVAC/R drawings to layout, measure and mark sheet metal.
• Develop patterns using CAD software and operate CNC, laser or plasma cutting equipment.
• Operate shears, brakes, punches, drill presses and rigging/hoisting equipment to cut, bend, punch and shape metal.
• Fit, join and install sheet‑metal components such as ventilation shafts, exhaust hoods, ducts and roofing systems.
• Inspect finished work for quality and code compliance, and perform grinding and buffing as needed.

Required profile

• Journeyperson certification and willingness to join Local Union 296.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to work at heights, on ladders or scaffolds.
• Professional demeanor with strong teamwork and customer focus.

Required skills

• Reading mechanical/electrical and HVAC/R schematics.
• Proficiency with CAD design software.
• Operation of CNC, laser and plasma cutting machines.
• Use of rigging and hoisting equipment.
• Riveting, welding and soldering sheet‑metal assemblies.
• Operation of shears, brakes, punches and drill presses.
