Intermediate Hydrogeologist / Hydrogeological Engineer (Modeller) – Canada

About the role

BGC Engineering Inc. is seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist or Hydrogeological Engineer with a focus on numerical modelling to join its Groundwater Team across Canada. The role supports hydrogeological, geological and geotechnical studies for the mining sector, offering opportunities to work on complex earth‑science challenges while developing professional skills.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hydrogeological site investigations, including core logging, groundwater sampling and hydraulic testing, and develop conceptual models.
• Perform QA/QC of field data, compile datasets, and create numerical groundwater flow models using software such as MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W or Leapfrog.
• Automate modelling workflows with scripting (e.g., Python) to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and geoscientists on mine water, geochemistry, rock mechanics and waste management studies.
• Prepare technical reports, figures and drawings, and occasionally contribute to proposals, budgeting and client communications.

Required profile

• Graduate degree in geoscience, geological engineering or related field (groundwater modelling thesis is an asset).
• Registered EIT/GIT or working toward P.Eng. / P.Geo. registration.
• Minimum 5 years of professional hydrogeology experience with exposure to numerical modelling.
• Willingness to travel and conduct field work in remote locations.

Required skills

• Python scripting for modelling and data management.
• Groundwater modelling software: MODFLOW, HydroGeoSphere, FEFLOW, SEEP/W, Leapfrog.
